"Shifting Worlds: InterAmerican (Dis)Entanglements" (SHIFT)

The focus area "Shifting Worlds: InterAmerican (Dis)Entanglements" (SHIFT) builds on the entanglement approach of the Bielefeld social sciences and humanities, developed at the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS). The three new thematic axes (planetary care, disembedding power, contested collectivities) extend ongoing collaborative projects, incorporate the disentanglement concept, and broaden the scope to encompass additional interdisciplinary perspectives. The objective is to establish a cross-faculty research focus at Bielefeld University, thereby amplifying the impact of research in the humanities, social sciences, economics, and natural sciences on the Americas in a global context.

Spotlight: SHIFT at BI.research Conference

SHIFT investigates transformation processes in social, political and ecological human-environment relations in the Americas in their relation to the global world. As part of the BI.research Conference, we are organizing an interdisciplinary panel that focuses on the underlying entanglement approach in relation to distinct practices, actors and epistemologies. Their interaction will be discussed in short contributions from the fields of natural and economic sciences, history of science as well as history, social and cultural sciences.
